Gallery/Museum Practices
Minor
Through the offices of the Curator of
Art and the Lawton Gallery the Art Discipline offers a Gallery/Museum
Practices minor. UWGB is one of only five campuses in the Wisconsin
system to offer this minor. The Lawton Gallery and the UWGB Permanent
Collection provide the practicum part of the course. The three
core courses introduce students to the range of professional methodologies
and practices, as well as the conceptual and socio-cultural issues
that confront the museum/gallery professional in the execution
of their duties.
Students are required to be involved in the design and installation
of the semesters exhibitions. A field trip to Chicago and
visits to local cultural institutions also form part of the course
program during each semester.
In the final advanced course students are expected to conceptualize
and curate an exhibition of their own design in an on or off campus
location.
The three courses that form the core of the minor are as follows:

ART-395: Exhibition Development and Design
ART-396: Gallery/Museum Practices, Principles and Policy
ART-495: Advanced Gallery/Museum Practices
