Instructional support provided by the LTC

Support for online courses and face-to-face courses enhanced with an online component: Desire2Learn (D2L) is the campus standard online (Web-based) course management system. The LTC provides all support for instructors using D2L and assists students with technical problems. The D2L login page, which includes support documentation, computer requirements, and a link to the course request form, is located at: http://www.uwgb.edu/learntech/D2L. Instructors interested in using D2L but unsure of how to start or with questions on how to take the next step are encouraged to contact Andy Speth.

Workshops: The LTC and User Support put on several workshops almost year-round. LTC workshops are generally limited to D2L training (instructor only) immediately before the fall semester start and special topic workshops presented as need and opportunity allow. User Support conducts a wide variety of workshops throughout most of the fall and spring semesters. User Support workshops, usually open to faculty, staff and students, tend to focus on standard campus applications. The workshop schedule can be found online at: http://www.uwgb.edu/learntech/Workshops/.

Hardware and software available: Faculty and staff are welcome to stop in and use the facilities of the LTC. We have a variety of software and hardware that might not be available on an instructor's computer. Hardware includes: flatbed scanners, slide scanner with a batch processing attachment, CD and DVD burners, digital video equipment and voice recorders. We also have some old drives that come in handy sometimes, such as a ZIP drive, 120MB Super Drive and flash card reader.

Software includes: Adobe Acrobat Pro for creating PDF files from almost anything, Dreamweaver for Web development, Omni Page Pro for scanning documents to Word files, and digital video and audio software.

The LTC is equip with both Windows and Mac computers.

LTC Production: The LTC supports faculty and staff but we do not have the resources or the charge to do production. So, for example, we help instructors develop online courses but we do not do the work for them. Or, we show instructors how to scan slides but we do not scan large numbers of slides for the instructor. We do not have a drop-off service.

In some cases, instructors arrange for students to assist them with special projects such as scanning large numbers of slides. In those situations, we are happy to provide support for those students for those special projects.

LTC support for students: The LTC assists students with technical problems using D2L, for example, not able to log in. Students with technical problems should contact the LTC at 465.2286 (M-F, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, or voice mail 24/7) or learntech@uwgb.edu. Non-technical, course-related questions, for example, a student wants an extension on an assignment, should always be addressed to the instructor, as they would in any face-to-face course.

The LTC is set up to support faculty and staff. Students looking for technical help in any area other than D2L should check with the student consultants in the General Access Computer Lab (also located in the Instructional Services building). These student consultants are trained to assist students needing technical help with standard computer applications.

Costs and charges: In general, there is no charge for instructional technology services at the LTC. However, there are circumstances when we must limit our role and other times when we must charge back for some of our services. For more information see our charge back policy.
