Course Instruction Guides and Library Resources in D2L
Whether you come to the Library for formal instruction or not, a course guide can be a very valuable tool for helping your students successfully use Library resources to complete class assignments. We would be happy to create one for your class!
THIS WILL NOT CREATE MORE WORK FOR YOU! Of course we will welcome as much input as you care to provide,
but sending us a copy of your syllabus is all you need to do. Currently the Library provides this service for nearly 40 instructors. For examples see http://www.uwgb.edu/Library/instruction/courses/index.html.
If you are using D2L your students can use the Library link to directly connect to the customized course guide.
Below is a list of things that we can include on your custom course guide.
- A direct link to our Research Assistance page where students can tap into reference services via phone, email, and instant messaging.
- A direct link to your electronic course reserves page.

- A direct link to your reserve list including print materials.
Print Reserve Catalog Record
- Library Catalog Subject Heading links to get your students to appropriate materials.
Consumer behavior
- We can add a library catalog search box right on your customized course guide. Give it a try!
- Direct links to full text articles in databases. For example:
Reading for Sept. 25th -- Enhancing the Self-Efficacy of Struggling Readers.
- MetaLib search boxes right on the course page that allows students to conduct journal and magazine article searches. The box below will search a number of business databases simultaneously. Give it a try!
- A direct link to databases most useful for research in your discipline and advice on how to use them most effectively to find journal articles.
- Tips for finding book in the Cofrin Library, in other UW Libraries, and around the world.
- A list of recommended electronic and print journals or appropriate reference materials owned by the Cofrin Library.
- Tips for evaluating websites and doing "smart" public web searchers. We can also assist in generating "custom" search engines that only search the sites that you select. Click HERE for an example.
- Links to citation guides.
- What is plagiarism and how to avoid it.
- Conducting a literature review and creating annotated bibliographies.
- Add a librarian to your D2L course. Librarians are available to monitor the discussion forum in your course where they can assist students with research assignments.
