Find Books

To search for books owned by the Cofrin Library, connect to the Cofrin Library Catalog's Basic Search Screen. When doing a "keyword search" make sure that you put phrases in quotes. For example you would need quotes around "physician assisted suicide" to generate a result list.

Find Articles

Key Journals -- Below are just a few journals you will want to consult. However, don't limit yourself to just these. You may find other good scholarly content in other scholarly journals.

Omega: The Journal of Death and Dying -- 1971 -- present

Mortality -- 1996 to present minus the most current 1 year.

Death Studies -- 1993 to present minus the most current 1 year. Most current year available in print on the Library's 4th floor.

If you have a citation to an article from a bibliography and you are interested in seeing if it is available you can use "Find Your Citation" This service will let you know if the article is in full text in a Library database, in a journal we subscribe to in print, or only available through interLibrary loan.

If you find just a citation (no electronic full text) click on the title of the article, and then the FIND IT buttion . If you have questions don't hesitate to contact the reference desk. Some article may only be available through interLibrary loan at the cost of one dollar per article.

PsycINFO is the best place to start your search so it is listed first. Google Scholar is another very useful resource, but remember, there will be articles available through PsycINFO in journals that Scholar does not index. There is also link to the Psychology Subject page where additional resources are listed that might reveal additional articles. You can also search multiple resources via MetaLib right from this page by typing keywords in the box below.

    Description: PsycINFO (R) contains citations and summaries of journal articles, book chapters, books, and technical reports, as well as citations to dissertations, all in the field of psychology and psychological aspects of related disciplines, such as medicine, psychiatry, nursing, sociology, education, pharmacology, physiology, linguistics, anthropology, business, and law.

  • Google Scholar
    Description: Scholar now contains a link that will allow you to see if the Library has the item in either print or lectronic format. Use the advanced search to limit from 1990 to present.

Find Obituaries in the Historical New York Times

  • Historical New York Times
    Description: Historical Newspapers-The New York Times has full text and full image articles from the New York Times dating back to the 19th century.
    Coverage: 1851-2001

The Historical New York Times is a great resource for obituaries. To view and search just obituaries make sure you click on "More Search Options" as shown below and select obituary as your document type.

You can also limit to "display adds" which will search for your key terms in advertisements. You can also sort your results be relevance.
