Information Problems
IS 210 - Information Problems
Below, you can find some resources collected for each of the Information Problems in your assignment. There are, however, a few sources that will be useful for a number of these topics:
1) Google Uncle Sam – Google Uncle Sam searches for your terms in US Government websites. Most of your search results will be from .gov or .mil domains.
2) USAsearch.gov – This was formerly firstgov.gov. This is the government-based search engine which searches US Government information. Using the advanced search screen, you can tailor your search results to specific states and territories. You will find a lot of overlap in the results you find here and from Google Uncle Sam, but both are worth a look in case one finds something the other misses.
3) CQ Researcher - The CQ Researcher explores a single "hot" issue in the news in depth each week. Topics range from social and teen issues to environment, health, education and science and technology. There are 44 reports produced each year including four expanded reports.
- CQ Researcher does a good job of presenting a balanced view of controversial topics. Most reports also contain a list of further reading for research on the topic. Not all topics will have a report, but it’s not a bad idea to check. Make sure you pay attention to the dates, since the reports go back to 1991, and using a report posted 18 years ago might not be the greatest idea.
4) Academic Search Complete - Database of scholarly and popular periodical articles. It's a great starting point for many topics, a good way to find out a little more of what's out there on your topic.
