Mac Troubleshooting

What do I need?

How do I read an e-book?

If you use a Mac and tried reading an e-book, then you have probably run into the following message: Opening nlReader.dll. You have chosen to open [] nlReader.dll which is a Windows DLL from: http://www.netlibrary.com. If you were using Safari you would have received the message, "Could not initialize Organizer database. Organizer features will not be available".

First, you cannot use Safari to view e-books. You need to use either Firefox or Camino as your browser. You also need the Schubert|it PDF plugin. Download information for Firefox and Camino is available at http://www.mozilla.org. Download information for the Schubert|it PDF plugin is available at http://www.schubert-it.com/pluginpdf/.

If you are using Firefox or Camino and have downloaded the plugin, you will still have one last glitch to deal with. When you bring up the e-book and select a chapter to read, a screen will come up asking you to either a.) enter in license agreement information, b.) select Educational Use, or c.) select Personal Use. Select the Educational Use option and then continue reading.

What do I do when the login screen "shakes" when I try to login?

Sometimes the Mac computer in the library has problems with the login process. If you type in your username and password and the screen "shakes" and does not login, please tell the computer consultant or a reference librarian. If neither is available please contact the Help Desk at ext. 2309
