How do I send an e-mail from a database?
If you have only used the web version of Outlook you may find yourself having problems sending an article to yourself. Here is a list of instructions on how to setup the desktop version of Outlook.
Note: If you are a community user or are not signed in with your campus username and password, these instructions will not work for you. Please ask the computer consultant or a reference librarian for assistance.
First, try opening the desktop version of Microsoft Outlook by clicking on the Microsoft Outlook icon listed on the left hand side. Your settings should automatically be set up for you, but if they are not, here are the steps you need to do this yourself.
- When prompted, click Next.
- Click Yes you want to set up an account.
- Pick MS Exchange Server.
- Name to type in: MSA.
- Uncheck the Use cache box.
- Type in your username (same one you use to login to the computer)
- Click on Check name.
- If the correct name is listed, click on Next.
- Click on Finish.
If you require further assistance, please ask the computer consultant or the reference librarian for help. If neither is available, please contact the Help Desk at ext. 2309 (x2019 on weekends).

The File - Print option and the printer icon in the browser do NOT work for printing PDFs. In order to print PDFs you need to use the print icon on the PDF menu. For further instructions and explanations, please see the CIT Adobe web page. If you have any questions about this, please ask the computer consultant or the reference librarian for assistance. If neither is available, please contact the Help Desk at ext. 2309 (x2019 on weekends).

How do I use the headphones jack?
There are two headphone jacks available on a computer. One is on the back of the computer and one is on the front and both are a lime green color. Sometimes the front jack does not work. Here are some instructions to help you set up the front jack.
- Double click on the Sound Manager Effect icon. This icon can be found on the bottom corner of the monitor screen and has a dark blue background with a yellow circle in the middle surrounded by two sets of parentheses. It looks something like this: ((*)).
- The Realtek window will open.
- Make sure the Speaker Configuration button is selected.
- Change the Front Panel green jack from "Not Connected" to Headphone.
- Plug in headphones and click on the Auto Test button to make sure the changes have been made.
If you have any problems, please ask the computer consultant or the reference librarian for assistance. If neither is available, please contact the Help Desk at ext. 2309 (x2019 on weekends).
Note: There are headphones available for your use at the Circulation desk. You will need a valid University ID or library card to checkout a pair.

If you plug in your USB drive but it does not appear in Windows Explorer or My Computer, check to see if you have used up the drive letters for other network or removable drives. For example, if you already have drives associated with A:, C:, D:, E:, F:, and G: and then you plug in your USB drive, the computer might not recognize it. If your system maps a network drive to the first available drive letter after the drive letters for the local volumes and CD-ROM drives then you might have a conflict. The computer tries to assign E:, F:, or G: to the USB drive and cannot because those letters are already in use. Here is a list of instructions to fix this problem.
- Right-click on My Computer and click Manage.
- Under Computer Management (Local), click Disk Management.
- In the right window, right-click the new drive and select Change Drive Letter and Path(s).
- Click Change, and in the drop-down box select a drive letter for the new drive that is not already assigned to another drive (try using Y: or Z:).
- Click OK and OK again.
- You should now see the USB drive in My Computer.
To prevent this from happening in the future, assign the highest available drive letter when you map a drive rather than the lowest. Windows XP does this by default to prevent this type of conflict.
