The David A. Cofrin LIbrary welcomes community members and guests from all over the world to use our collections and resources. If you are not sure which category of guest user fits your situation, please contact the Circulation Department by e-mail or call 920-465-2540 to determine which library services you are eligible for.

Alumni
Many UW Green Bay alumni qualify for our free NEW ERA borrowing card. Alumni who do not qualify are eligible to purchase a community card. Members of the Alumni Association at the Cornerstone or Lifetime rate receive a discounted community card of $15.00. For more information on alumni borrowing privileges, contact the 3rd floor Circulation Desk either in person, via e-mail or by phone at 920-465-2540.

Community
Many community members qualify for a NEW ERA borrowing card. If you are a Wisconsin resident 18 years of age or older who does not qualify for a NEW ERA card, a community card can be purchased at the 3rd floor Circulation Desk for $25.00. This card is valid for one year from date of purchase. As a NEW ERA library user you can use the David A. Cofrin Library resources. You can also check out library materials, up to 10 items at any one time. Most items can be borrowed for 28 days and can be renewed twice unless requested by another patron. To apply for a community card you must present a valid Wisconsin driver's license or photo ID and fill out an application at our 3rd floor Circulation Desk.

Electronic Access

On Campus: Guests may use the library's guest account on public PCs in the library for full access to all library databases, the Cofrin Library catalog, and special programs such as FindIt and Metalib. Any campus software installed on that PC is also available. Printing from computers is also available with the purchase of a guest card. Some databases may not allow guests to e-mail articles because a campus e-mail account is required.
Off Campus: Guests can search the Cofrin Library Catalog from any computer with Internet access. Some links in the catalog and most of our electronic databases are available off-campus only to students, faculty, and staff with a UW Green Bay campus computer account due to licensing agreements. Metalib is available to guests who are off-campus, but the databases available this way are very limited. Find Your Citation is also available, but off-campus community members will not be able to connect to the full-text articles because of licensing restrictions.
Personal Laptops on Campus: Guests can connect to the Internet via their laptop by either plugging into a designated laptop network jack or using their wireless enabled laptop in one of several wireless areas. Only software installed on the laptop is available, not any campus software. Laptop users are able to access the databases and Cofrin Library Catalog as listed above under "On Campus". Printing from your laptop is not available.
Other: Guests do not receive interlibrary loan or UB (universal borrowing) privileges. Most Wisconsin residents have access to some of our databases through the Badgerlink Project <http://www.badgerlink.net/>, a statewide initiative providing access to articles from thousands of newspaper and periodical titles, images files, and other reference materials.

Guests may also find it convenient to check the free Worldcat.org database to see if any area libraries including the Cofrin Library have a particular item.

Friends of Cofrin Library
The Friends of Cofrin Library is an organization dedicated to supporting and promoting the Library. Community memberships start at $25.00. As a member of the Friends you will qualify for a free community borrower's card. This card will allow you to check out up to 50 items at any one time. Friends members also receive the following benefits:

Newsletters that bring you up-to-date news about the Friends of the Cofrin Library
Invitations to Friends events
Premiums for early membership renewals
Meaningful volunteer opportunities
Discounts at local bookstores, including Butterfly Books, the Reader's Loft, and The Attic Books

High School Students
Although NEW ERA and Community borrowing cards are available to persons 18 years of age and older, we encourage area high school students to use the Cofrin Library through the North East Wisconsin Intertype Libraries (NEWIL) consortium. Many area schools are members of NEWIL. You may also qualify for NEWIL privileges through your public library. To find out if your library or school is part of the NEWIL consortium visit the NEWIL website and click on the link for the type of library you are affiliated with. To use the Cofrin Library through the NEWIL consortium contact your affiliated library for a courtesy card. This card must be presented to Cofrin Library Staff when you wish to check out materials, and is valid for one-time use.

NEW ERA (NorthEast Wisconsin Educational Resource Alliance)
Persons 18 years or older residing in Brown, Calumet, Door, Florence, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Kewaunee, Manitowoc, Marinette, Marquette, Menominee, Oconto, Outagamie, Shawano, Sheboygan, Waupaca, Waushara, or Winnebago counties can apply for a free NEW ERA borrowers card by presenting a valid Wisconsin picture ID or driver's license at our 3rd floor Circulation Desk. Cards are valid for one year from the application date. After one year cards can be renewed by contacting the Circulation Department. Your NEW ERA card allows you to not only use the David A. Cofrin Library for your research needs, it also allows you to check out up to 10 books at any one time. Items typically check out for 28 days and can be renewed twice unless requested by another patron.

As a NEW ERA member, you are able to use your card at any of the following NEW ERA member libraries: College of Menominee Nation, Fox Valley Technical College, Lakeshore Technical College, Moraine Park Technical College, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, University of Wisconsin-Extension, University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac, University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley, University of Wisconsin-Manitowoc, University of Wisconsin-Marinette, University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan.

NEW ERA library users do not receive InterLibrary Loan or Universal Borrowing privileges, or off-campus access to our licensed electronic resources.

NEWIL (North East Wisconsin Intertype Libraries)
North East Wisconsin Intertype Libraries (NEWIL) is a consortium of libraries servicing Brown, Door, Florence, Kewaunee, Marinette, Menominee, Oconto, and Shawano counties. NEWIL libraries can issue courtesy cards to their users which enables them to check out materials from other member libraries. This is a single purpose card to be used once. This card must be presented to Cofrin Library staff when you wish to check out materials. Many area public and school libraries are members of NEWIL. UW Students, Faculty, or Staff
If you work at or attend another UW college or university, you may check out materials at our library using your UW ID. You may also use the Universal Borrowing service to request UWGB items be delivered to any UW library for your use. Visit the Universal Borrowing webpage for more information or to make a request.

Other Colleges or Universities
Guests affiliated with non-University of Wisconsin colleges and universities are welcome to come and use our collections on-site. Some local colleges are part of the NEWIL consortium. Please check that section to see if you qualify for NEWIL borrowing privileges.

Directions to campus
For parking, please enter via the Main Entrance and pick up a parking permit at the Visitor's booth. The closest parking lot is the Weidner Center parking lot. You do not need a parking permit after 7 pm during the week or on weekends.
Printing and photocopying are available through the purchase of a guest card, available at the VTS kiosk on the 3rd floor. Please bring dollar bills to obtain a guest card.
