Public Records by County

PUBLIC RECORDS represent the largest portion of the holdings at the Green Bay Area Research Center. Public records are those created by public officials and agencies as they perform their duties. We house public records for all eleven counties in our region, as well as the records for many towns, cities, villages, and school districts. Public records in our collection span from the early 1800s to the present. Types and quantities of original public records available vary with each county. Some of the most frequently used public records for our eleven-county region are represented in the table below.
Public records may be used for a wide variety of research projects pertaining to local history and genealogy in northeastern Wisconsin. Examples include: urban development, treatment of women and minorities, social climate, immigration patterns, and business histories.
