| Don’t — make that DO — heckle the flax
|
Profs. Alison Gates (Art, Women’s and Gender Studies) and Heidi Sherman (History) joined students and other volunteers this week to take the next steps in the UW-Green Bay flax project. Using plants they grew, harvested and dried this summer, the group worked to break and process the flax (via processes including “scutching” and “heckling”) to prepare it for use. The result was a softer, more pliable fiber.
