Open space to link housing, campus core

A park-like area for student gatherings, events and recreation is soon to be developed on three acres of undeveloped land separating the Residence Life complex and the University Union. The cost of clearing, landscaping and improvements will be covered by University Village Housing, Inc. Planners say the space will be an activity magnet and outdoor focal point for student life. Demolition crews are jack-hammering away, furiously at times, as they repair the nearly 40-year-old roof deck and update the outdoor plaza above. Meanwhile, Student Services staffers are bravely soldiering on, through the din, until work wraps up in early fall.
