Copying a competency or learning objective

Copying a competency or learning objective can save you time if you are creating a new competency that is substantially similar to an existing one.

You can also create a copy of a competency if you want to try making changes to it without impacting user progress.

Note  Be sure to hide the new competency from learners when you experiment with changes.

Copying a competency with children

If the element you copy has any children (elements attached beneath it), you can copy just the element (creating another element with the same properties) or include the structure beneath the element as well.

Copying between org units

Copying an element or structure only works within a single org unit. Your copy exists in the same org unit as its original.

For information about copying between org units, see the topic on copying course components.

Copying vs. sharing

When you copy a competency, the new competency is identical to the first but distinct from it (two different competencies with all the same properties). If you want users to have access to the same competency in different places, you must share the competency rather than copying it. See the section Shared competencies.
