Adding students to a D2L course

Student rosters are automatically added to all D2L courses by the Learning Technology Center. These student rosters are updated daily through the last day for students to add classes, and irregularly after that. Students who drop courses that use D2L are unenrolled from their D2L course at the next roster upload only if they drop early in the semester. Each semester has a date beyond which students are retained on the roster and receive a grade of DR or W. See the academic calendar here.

In most cases students cannot access a D2L course until the first day of classes. This is controlled by Start Date that is assigned to most D2L courses. Instructors can see the Start Date of any of their D2L courses by clicking on Edit Course and then Course Offering Information. The Start Date is visible but cannot be changed by the instructor. An instructor who wants the Start Date changed for a D2L course should contact the Learning Technology Center and provide the name and section of the D2L course and desired Start Date.

In most cases students cannot access a D2L course after the last day of classes. This is controlled by End Date that is assigned to most D2L courses. Instructors can see the End Date of any of their D2L courses by clicking on Edit Course and then Course Offering Information. The End Date is visible but cannot be changed by the instructor. An instructor who wants the End Date changed for a D2L course should contact the Learning Technology Center and provide the name and section of the D2L course and desired End Date. Extending the End Date affects all students in theD2L course; End Dates cannot be set for individual students.

Instructors manually adding test students:

Instructors can add test students to their D2L courses so they can look at their class as a student would see them. All students must be in the D2L global database before they can be added to a class; instructors cannot create new users. Contact the Learning Technology Center for help creating and adding test students.

Instructors adding individuals from off campus:

Instructors should contact the Learning Technology Center if they want individuals from outside UW-Green Bay to access their D2L course. We will need the first and last names of the individual, a username, email address, password, and the name of the D2L course. In almost all cases we assign Student rather than Instructor permissions for these guest accounts.
