Soo Il Shin is an assistant professor of management information systems and statistics for the Austin E. Cofrin School of Business at the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay. He received his BS in chemistry from Sogang University in South Korea in 1998, an MBA from Sogang University in 2002 and a Master of Actuarial Science (MAS) from Georgia State University in 2008. He earned his PhD in Management Information Systems from Auburn University in 2014. Prior to pursuing his MAS program, he worked at MetLife Insurance of Korea as a supervisor for several years.

Dr. Shin’s current research interests are in the areas of computer-mediated communication, social media and its business use, virtual community and trust concerns in the context of e-media. He has authored a number of conference proceedings, and all of his works have been presented at prestigious national and international MIS/IS conferences. He also serves as a reviewer for premier conferences, including the Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS) and the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS), and for MIS journals. Dr. Shin is a member of the Association for Information Systems (AIS), Special Interest Group on Decision Support and Special Interest Group on Human–Computer Interaction.

Dr. Shin teaches a variety of MIS courses, including Business Analytics, Business Computer Applications, Business Telecommunication Systems, Corporate Computer and Network Security, Visual Basic Programming, Introduction to MIS, Social Media and Its Business Applications, Database Management Systems and Strategic Information Management.
