History

Established in March of 1988 through The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, Manitowoc Campus Foundation, Inc. and the Lakeshore Wind Ensemble Association, these cash awards are meant to recognize excellence in music performance on the part of individual students at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, Manitowoc Campus. There was a name change in 2014 from "Matthew and Beatrice Arendt Talentships" to "Arendt Family UW-Green Bay, Manitowoc Campus Foundation LWEA Talentship."

Qualifications

In order to be eligible for these awards, an Individual must be a full time registered student at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, Manitowoc Campus during the semester in which the award is used. The award is divided equally between the fall and spring terms.

The student must be a “for-credit” member of the Lakeshore Wind Ensemble during the same period. A first semester freshman will be selected on the basis of demonstrated musical ability. A continuing student must, in addition, maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.5 in order to qualify for this award.

Financial need may be considered in instances where more than one candidate is felt to be otherwise equally qualified for the award. One's academic major is not a criterion for the award.

All standard band instruments from the brass, woodwind, and percussion families are included as audition vehicles. Special consideration may also be given to keyboard and string bass (contact the Conductor of the LWE for further information). Students may audition on multiple instruments to demonstrate depth of musical preparation.

Recipients will receive their awards In October at the first Lakeshore Wind Ensemble Subscription Concert. The recipients will also be recognized during the annual University of Wisconsin Manitowoc Spring Awards Convocation. Recipients will be notified by mid-September.
