The Nicolet National Forest offers us the ability
to view a number of wetland types, including bogs, swamps, impoundments,
and marsh. Click on the map to enlarge.
A: Indian Lake
has a well developed lake edge marsh. We will also visit Knowles
Creek impoundment where a wetland was created by damming
the creek
B: Little
Cub Lake: We will visit a bog that has a boardwalk so we
can get out onto the sphagnum mat. Bogs are acid and have a unique
type of leathery leaved plants.
C: Deer
Creek is another created wetland impoundment.
D: Here we will see examples of Black
Ash swamp and Cedar
swamp.
