Intranet



The intranet is a relatively popular concept among businesses. An intranet is similar to the internet with the major difference being the intranet is restricted to people who have access to the system. Information such as benefits, company policies, company directories, and such are common information found on these sites. Also available are common applications such as e-mail and access to the world wide web. An intranet has numerous benefits:

  1. Security from outsiders
  2. Focus is on the company.
  3. Paperless medium.
  4. Updates easily.
  5. Connects computers working with different operating systems.
These are but a few of the benefits. Since an intranet is similar to the Internet already covered, a starting point to learn more can be found back in week 2 of the course. The employee can enjoy the ease of use of the internet while the employer can rest easy knowing their data is safe.
