  • European Economic Community Multi-Language Technical Dictionary This electronic, multilingual dictionary is designed especially for technical vocabulary. Simply type in the word you want to translate, indicate the primary and target language, and submit the query. An expert mode for more detailed searches is also available. The I'm Europe home page has additional information on European research services.
  • Web search engines. This page, maintained by the Cofrin Library, contains links to a variety of search engines with directions for conducting effective online searches. Most of these search engines can lead to valuable information in languages other than English. Google Excellent for searches in English or French. Recognizes accents in search. Using accents for search queries improves results. Also available in French version although search results are similar. Altavista,has also proven to be useful for searches in other languages. It will recognize accented words and there are versions available in several languages, although it remains possible to do searches in other languages from the English interface. Euroseek is a multi-national search engine that allows searches in 40 languages, as well as searches limited to specific countries. Most search engines now allow searches for accented words, but if you are having problems searching for words with accent marks, try Excite which has greater accent recognition than many other search engines which have English as their default language.   • The Cofrin Library Home Page contains valuable links to online catalogs, internet subject directories, electronic indexes and databases,and a way to send an e-mail message to a Cofrin Library reference librarian. On campus users have access to the online Encyclopedia Britannica, an excellent research resource.
  • Columbia Guide to Online Style. A how-to-cite-online-sources guide in the MLA style format. Another Guide to electronic sources also includes citations in the APA format.
  • Animal Noises. Find out what various animals say in languages from Catalan to Ukrainian.

French Search Engines. These search engines specialize in data bases from France and other French-speaking countries around the world.

  • Francité Search by topic (like Yahoo) or by word.
  • Google's French version.
  • Lehman College, CUNY, French search engine page. Multiple French engine searches from one page.
  • Swiss search engine in French, German, Italian, English.
  • Wanadoo France. Search from indexed lists of information.
  • Yahoo, France. Excellent
  • Voilà. Search by topic, including current events. Offers useful direct links to French news services, etc. Excellent
