Dr. Mark Kiehn joined the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Professional and Graduate Programs in Education in 2004 as an assistant professor of education, with emphases in music and visual art. Before arriving at UWGB, he was assistant professor of music education at Midwestern State University in Texas for four years. Professor Kiehn holds a M.M.E. and a Ph.D. in music education research from the University of Colorado-Boulder.
His contract teaching experience also includes 15 years in the elementary and secondary public schools teaching instrumental music, vocal music, visual art, and physical education. Professor Kiehn has adjudicated district performances and founded several children's choirs in both Colorado and Texas.
Kiehn's research interests include the professional development of teachers, creative thinking, classroom assessment, and student motivation. He recently was invited as both guest conductor and trumpet performer at the 2003 International Trumpet Guild Conference, and authored an article entitled "Development of Music Creativity Among Elementary School Students" in the MENC publication, the Journal of Research in Music Education (Winter, 2003).
