Jazz Fest XLV Schedule of Events

All school groups performing during the day will receive written comments, plus an onstage clinic by adjudicators after their performance. Jazz Fest is non-competitive - Groups do not receive a first, second, etc., ranking. However, two jazz ensembles are named "outstanding," and these groups perform in the afternoon concert at the Weidner Center.
The concert will begin with 2 outstanding high school jazz bands previously selected from the festival of performances. You will be impressed with the quality of musicianship of these young bands! The UW-Green Bay Jazz Ensembles will open the second half of the program, followed by drummer, Carl Allen and the UWGB Alumni Jazz Band. The Alumni Ensemble consists of some of the finest "home grown" jazz talent in the area.
8:00 am - 1:00 pm High School and Middle School Jazz Ensembles and Jazz Combos.
Jazz ensembles and jazz combos should prepare two or three contrasting selections. One score must be provided for each selection to accommodate the evaluation process. On-and-off-stage time is thirty minutes for each group. Following each performance there will be an onstage clinic.
1:00 - 1:50: Clinic/performance sessions with guest clinicians
Trumpet Sectional with UWGB Alumni Trumpet section: clinicians will discuss the roles each performer plays in the big band trumpet section.
Location: University Theatre, Theatre Hall
Saxophone Sectional with UWGB Alumni Saxophone section: clinicians will discuss the duties and roles each perform plays in in the saxophone section.
Location: SA B103, Studio Arts
Trombone Sectional with UWGB Alumni Trombone section: Clinicians will discuss playing trombone in the Jazz ensemble and the roles each section member plays in creating a good sound.
Location: SA B101, Studio Arts
Rhythm Sectional: (piano, bass, guitar) With UWGB Alumni Rhythm section: Clinicians will discuss rhythm section playing in the jazz ensemble.
Location: Jean Weidner Theatre, Weidner Center
2:00 – 2:45 Clinic session with UWGB Alum Carl Allen
2:45 – 3:15: Announcements: Outstanding Student Performers, Outstanding Ensembles
4:00: Afternoon Concert on the main stage in the Weidner Center for Performing Arts*
Featuring drummer, Carl Allen with the UWGB Alumni Jazz Band, the UWGB Jazz Ensemble and two outstanding Jazz Ensembles chosen from the festival.
