Course Descriptions
The links on this page will take you to the Course Description section of the Undergraduate Catalog. Courses offered by the Music Discipline have two prefixes, MUSIC and MUS APP. Courses about music education methods can be found at the Education link below and interdisciplinary courses with music content can be found at the COMN ART link below.
MUSICCourses that begin with the MUSIC prefix are, for the most part, in a lecture format. These include theory, history, literature, and pedagogical courses. It also includes some skills courses with applied elements, such as conducting.
EDUCATIONMusic education methods courses are included in the Education section of the Catalog. This section also includes the Education courses required for students interested in seeking teacher certification in music.
MUS APPCourses that begin with the MUS APP prefix are applied music courses. These courses include individual lessons, ensembles, and some skills courses such as keyboard musicianship.
COMN ARTCourses that begin with the COMN ART prefix belong to the interdisciplinary program Communication and the Arts. Several COMN ART courses have music as the central content area and include a cultural or interdisciplinary focus, such as jazz history and world music
