Supervising and Managing Work Group Performance (504)

Description: This training explores a variety of interventions that assure productive contributions from every work unit in the agency and identifies barriers to productivity. Core 504 also presents strategies to build work groups into self-developing teams, focused on achieving a shared purpose.

Course Objectives

. To understand how to help employees connect their work to the purpose and mission of the larger child and family service system.

. To identify ways that changes and challenges can be used as opportunities to increase the unit's collective contribution to the organization's success.

. To understand how to plan, organize, and lead effective meetings.

. To identify components of productive work groups, explore how to help work units fully develop their potential, and strategies to promote collaboration and conflict resolution.

. To understand the developmental concepts and dynamics of group process and the role of the leader in identifying the most appropriate management strategies for different developmental stages.

. Establishing guidelines for determining unit structure, appropriate level of collaboration among members, decision-making practices, and planning activities that best maintain focus toward achievement of mission.

Target Audience: Supervisory Core is designed for child welfare professionals with supervisory responsibilities. Supervisory Core modules 501, 502, 503, and 504 are intended to be completed as a sequence by the same cohort. Cores 501, 502, and 503 are prerequisites for this training, unless special arrangements have been made.

NOTE: Public child welfare supervisors and managers are given priority for registrations; however, non-child welfare supervisors may attend as room allows. Non-child welfare supervisors will be charged non-partnership registration rates. Sessions are limited 20 participants.
