DESCRIPTION : In this two-day training, participants will actively explore the developmental consequences of child abuse and neglect in children from birth to adolescence and establish a framework for the early recognition of developmental problems, enhancing the professional's ability to formulate appropriate family service plans.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  • recognize the normal milestones of development

  • identify indicators of development delay

  • recognize the negative impact of maltreatment on normal development

  • recognize when children's behavior problems may be symptoms of developmental delay or emotional disturbance

  • help parents and foster parents set realistic expectations for children who have developmental delays as a result of maltreatment
