Ethics and Boundaries 2007 -2009:
Applied Ethics and Boundaries within Organizational Culture

Registration: 8:30 a.m.
Workshop: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Fee: $18 for Partnership Members, $120 for Non-Partnership Members

Description:
Ethics and Boundaries for the 2007-2009 certification period continues to focus on how our social work values and ethics relate to our practice in the context of our own organization’s work culture.  Participants will explore some common ethical challenges within social service organizations, with an opportunity to think about situations from agency perspectives other than their own.   These discussions are intended to deepen understanding of everyone’s responsibility for safeguarding professional practice, whether their role is administrator, supervisor or practitioner. Through discussion participants develop strategies that can be used to contribute toward healthy helping environments.  The NASW Code of Ethics and Wisconsin Administrative Code MPSW20 are also reviewed and utilized for discussion, with case examples from child welfare.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  • To re-orient participants to the content and application of the NASW Code of Ethics and the MPSW 20: Conduct

  • To further understanding of the role of organizational culture in both direct and indirect practice and its impact on professional behavior

  • To enhance understanding through case studies the many ways ethics questions manifest in direct and indirect practice on a daily basis at the levels of worker, supervisor, and administrator

  • To afford the opportunity to understand the ethical challenges and dilemmas faced by administration, supervision and front line staff when confronted with the same situations

  • To continue development of skill in using an ethical decision-making model and other tools to resolve ethical quandaries

  • To engage in action planning as related to professional development such that transfer of learning takes place to the work setting
