DESCRIPTION : Prescription Drug Abuse and addiction have become a problem as prescription pain killers and stimulants increasingly become drugs of choice. The purpose of this workshop is to increase and solidify the participants’ knowledge base in the area of working with clients whose drugs of choice include prescription drug abuse. This training will primarily address prescription drug abuse and addiction with adults.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
- Obtain knowledge of current prescription drugs of abuse
- Understand the availability of prescription drugs of abuse
- Understand addiction specific to tolerance and withdrawal effects.
- Identify the emotional progression and family impact of prescription drug abuse
- Learn about the recognition and detection of prescription drug use
- Understand the pharmacology of the individuals drugs
- Learn information about the impact of prescription drug use on neurotransmitters and the brain
- Gain an understanding of the treatment practicalities.
TARGET AUDIENCE:This training is appropriate for Child Welfare and Juvenile Justice social work professionals and supervisors who want to increase their knowledge base of prescription drug abuse and use that knowledge base to assist in case planning.
