Advice To Pre-RN Students

Students who are not yet RNs (for instance those who are currently pursuing their Associate Degrees in Nursing) are able to take courses to fulfill the general education and support courses for the BSN degree at UW-Green Bay. Pre-RN students are not allowed to enroll in upper-level nursing courses but can complete other requirements towards the BSN Degree. This option is useful for students in ADN programs who have finished their non-nursing requirements but are waitlisted for beginning their nursing courses.

Interested students should apply to UW-Green Bay as “Pre-Nursing” students and should contact an advisor in the Nursing Department ( for advising. Students pursuing this option should stay in close contact with the professional nursing advisor to be sure that courses not taken at UW-Green Bay will count toward the needed general education and support course requirements. The following are requirements that pre-RN students can fulfill:

General Education
Fine Arts
Social Sciences
Natural Sciences
Other Culture
Ethnic Studies

Nursing Support
Written Communication
Therapeutic Nursing Intervention Electives
Critical Thinking Elective

*Will be satisfied by articulation agreements/transfer credits after the ADN is completed.

**Critical thinking elective can be satisfied by certain humanities courses such as philosophy, or taken as a separate course.

*** A college level Chemistry course will be required of students matriculating fall 2007 or after. (A high school level Chemistry course will not meet the requirement.)
