Wisconsin Technology Enhanced Collaborative Nursing Education Grant

The Professional Program in Nursing is participating in a federally funded Wisconsin Technology Enhanced Collaborative Nursing Education grant. This grant will improve and increase the use of technology and informatics in nursing education. The five University of Wisconsin Nursing Programs - Oshkosh, Eau Claire, Milwaukee, Madison, and Green Bay are participating.

Cultural Assessment Activity

UW-Green Bay students and community members were invited to participate in an end of the semester cultural assessment activity that took place in Dr. Mimi Kubsch's Theoretical Foundations course. First generation immigrants of diverse culture were represented from the Phillipines, China, East & West Germany, Mexico, and Japan. There were also representatives from Afro-American, Native American, and Jewish American groups who were interviewed. The interviews were structured using Geiger and Davidhizar's cultural assessment criteria. Ethnic foods from the countries represented made the evening festive. Students in the class learned first-hand how people from diverse cultures would like nurses to provide culturally congruent care.

Partnerships with ADN Programs:

We are continuing our efforts to create an innovative nursing program through partnering with ADN programs. If there is an ADN program in your area that you think would be interested in partnering with our RN to BSN program, please contact us at nursing@uwgb.edu.

Kudos to Our Students and Graduates!

Our students make excellent contributions to improving health care during their time in the program as well as after graduation.  This includes:

  • Receiving scholarships from the National League for Nursing (Suzanne Haines, Jason Mattson, and Donna Verville)
  • Receiving a scholarship from the Loretta Wells Charitable Trust (Julie Baeten)
  • Receiving the Northeastern Wisconsin Oncology Nurses Association Scholarship (Susan Holtz)

Please tell us of your professional accomplishments including new jobs, publications, successes at work, degrees after graduation, etc. by sending a message to nursing@uwgb.edu (along with wording that we have permission to post this on the webpage).

Request for Digital Photos

If you have a digital photo of yourself either working on your home computer or engaged in the practice of nursing (but without identifiable patients in the background) please zap it to us at nursing@uwgb.edu with a permission statement to use it on the web.

Dr. Susan Gallagher-Lepak has developed a new on-line course for the BSN-LINC track entitled, Adaptation to Chronic Illness and Disability.  It is relevant content for all nurses given that the number one health problem in the US is chronic illness.  The course deals with biopsychosocial factors affecting adjustment and heath  with chronic illness and disability.  Also, Susan recently published a chapter:
Gallagher-Lepak, S. et al (2005).  Clinical pharmacology in rehabilitation case management.  In F. Chan, MJ. Leahy & J.L. Saunders (Eds.), Case Management for rehabilitation health professionals (pp. 64-68).   Osage Beach, MO:  Aspen Professional Services.
