Course Description

The purpose of this course is to provide students with an understanding of the stylistic, aesthetic and social significance of selected music cultures. The course examines music of tribal cultures (Sub-Saharan African and Native American), folk cultures (African-American, Latin American, and Eastern European) and non-western art music (Indian, Indonesian. Japanese, and Chinese).
