What Makes People Tick? Solving the Motivation Puzzle
Wednesday, August 18, 2010
9:00 am to 4:00 pm
KI Center, Green Bay
In Partnership with Wisconsin Municipal Clerks Association
Overview
Performance depends on three things: Opportunity, ability, and motivation. In this class, we’ll focus on motivation. Specifically, we’ll learn some potential answers to four key motivation questions:
- What causes people to start acting in a particular way?;
- What causes people to choose among alternative courses of action?;
- What causes people to persist in a chosen action?; and
- What causes people to stop a given action?
We’ll learn about and apply key theories and practices of motivation that have been developed and perfected over the past 50 years. The class will consist of lecture, discussion, video clips, and mini-cases. You’ll leave the class with a much better sense of what motivates you, your family, your friends, and your co-workers. You’ll also have a strong understanding of how to create the conditions under which you and others might choose to be motivated.
