Improv and Dementia Care — Learning to say “Yes and” Train-the-Trainer

Improvisation, or improv, is a form of live theatre in which the plot, characters and dialogue of a game, scene or story are made up in the moment. Often improvisers will take a suggestion from the audience, or draw on some other source of inspiration to get started. This Train-the-Trainer course will give you tools vital to train caregivers on how to use improv theater skills in interactions with residents with dementia. One of the greatest gifts that can be given to someone with dementia is a sense of purpose and acceptance, and improv is the language that allows staff to accomplish this.

Upon Completion Participants Will Know How to:

  • Use improv as a tool to communicate and reduce challenging behaviors
  • Use “Yes and” in conversations
  • Train your staff on how to use improv with your residents and improve the quality of life for people with dementia
