Packers in Class and On Campus

Tim TerryIt hasn’t been uncommon over the years for Packers players — including some who left school early to enter the NFL — to work through UW-Green Bay to earn enough credits to transfer back to complete their undergraduate degrees at their previous institutions (The list includes the team’s all-time rushing leader Ahman Green, veteran linebacker A.J. Hawk and league MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers). In recent years, several former NFL players working in front-office roles for the Packers have enrolled at UW-Green Bay to pursue graduate degrees. The team’s director of player development, Rob Davis, earned a Master’s in Education Leadership in 2013. Scout and Assistant Director of Pro Personnel Tim Terry (pictured) received his Master’s in Management in 2011. (Also, in the early 1990s, UW-Green Bay partnered with the NFL and the Packers to offer a non-credit course in personal finance management for players.)

Coaches on stage, players in the stands — Packers players and team officials are occasionally spotted in the audience or in the crowd at UW-Green Bay basketball games and performing arts productions. Memorable was the time (in 1995) that Super Bowl-winning coach Mike Holmgren surprised Sally Struthers, Adrian Zmed and the national touring cast of “Grease” on stage at the campus Weidner Center during final curtain call. More recently, another Super coach, Mike McCarthy, went backstage to pose for photos with the men of Blue Man Group (2013).
