Do I have to audition?

  • Volunteer Players = no audition required
  • Paid Players = yes audition required

Wait, there are Paid Positions?

  • Yes! Paid Positions are available for every pep band instrument.

How do Paid Positions work?

  • UWGB Students can earn a Paid Position (by audition) in either the Men's Pep Band, the Women's Pep Band, or both.
  • Students may serve as a Paid Player in one Band - and as a Volunteer Player in the other Band.
  • Visit Paid Positions for more information.
  • Auditions occur near the beginning of each semester, and require concurrent enrollment in the UWGB Symphonic Band or Wind Ensemble.
  • Participation in all scheduled Pep Band rehearsals is required for all Paid Players.
  • Successful performance at all scheduled Men's games or Women's games (depending on Paid Position) is required for all Paid Players.
  • In case of any absence, Paid Players are responsible for arranging a capable substitute player. That substitute receives your payment for that event.

What are the Audition Requirements for Paid Players?

  2. Major (or Minor) Scales of your choice in at least 3 different key signatures.

Which players are eligible for tournaments? (NCAA and Horizon League tournaments)

  • Both Volunteer Players and Paid Players are eligible for tournament travel!
  • Selection for travel is simply based on game attendance, instrumentation need, and seniority in the Phoenix Pep Band.

But my schedule only lets me enroll in Symphonic Band (or Wind Ensemble) one semester!

  • You can audition for a Paid Player Position for one semester - then be a Volunteer Player the other semester.
  • Symphonic Band - MUS ENS 241 (or 441), section 0002 - (meets Mondays & Wednesdays @ 4:00pm-5:30pm)
  • Wind Ensemble - MUS ENS 241 (or 441), section 0001 - (by audition, meets Tuesdays & Thursdays @ 3:45pm-5:30pm)
