Scholarships

Theatre and Dance Scholarships

Scholarships for both incoming and returning students are available.  Scholarships are granted for a single year with half of the amount applied to each semester.  Students may reapply each year for scholarship assistance.

Theatre Merit Scholarships
Up to $800 per academic year.
These scholarships are available to both incoming and returning students.

First Nighter Scholarships
Up to $1000 per academic year.
These scholarships are awarded to returning students only.

Louis O. Erdmann Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a returning student who has shown excellence in multiple areas of Theatre.

Qualifications

Those eligible, include students:

  • Enrolling for first year or continuing full-time study at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and declaring a major or minor in the theatre discipline.

  • Ranking in the upper fourth of their high school class or having a g.p.a. of 3.0 or better (4.0 scale).

  • Eligible to enroll at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay as a full time undergraduate student.

Acceptance by the University Admissions Office must be granted prior to consideration for this scholarship.

Returning students reapply for scholarships each Spring. All scholarship requests are reviewed by the Theatre Faculty and awards are made based on a combination of contribution to and growth in theatre, academic achievement and need. Scholarship Awards are made by June 1. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA in order to receive and retain a scholarship.

 Incoming students fill out a scholarship application and schedule an audition or interview.

Interview/Audition

All applicants, whether acting, directing, design, dance, or technical theatre, are required to interview or audition before a faculty committee. Design and tech applicants should present evidence of involvement with a portfolio or documentation of work. Performance/Musical Theatre applicants will be asked to present two contrasting monologues or a monologue and a song totaling no more than 5 minutes. Dance applicants should present a dance piece. Songs should be performed with accompaniment.  Piano or boom box will be provided if requested.  Allow at least 2 weeks notice if an accompanist is needed.  The interview will take place during the spring semester.

Deadlines:

  • April 15- Scholarship Application and Supporting Materials

  • May 15- Audition/Interview completed.

Notification

Applicants will be notified of award by June 1 in a letter from the Chairperson of Theatre.

Requirements Upon Selection

  • Successful applicant must:Register for a full load (12 credits) or more, and declare a major or minor in theatre. Dance minors must enroll for a dance minor in the Theatre discipline.

  • Maintain a grade point average of 3.0 for the first semester in order to recieve the second semester portion of an award.

  • Participate in department productions as a cast or crew member. A performance major/minor must audition for each production. A tech major/minor must serve on a crew.

Students may apply for other scholarships from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. For information, see your high school counselor or contact Ron Ronnenberg , Financial Aids Office, Student Services Building, Room 1200, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, 2420 Nicolet Dr., Green Bay, WI 54311-7001. This and any other scholarships, will be considered as part of a student's total financial aid award if any other aid is awarded.
