"I work mostly in Early Modern Philosophy and Metaphysics, and am particularly interested in Rationalism.  I wrote a dissertation on individuality in Spinoza's one-substance metaphysic and have published papers on consciousness, essentialism, and necessitarianism.  I'm currently at work on a paper on causality and laws.  In addition to research, I've developed a course in environmental ethics, which is a lot of fun, and am in the process of developing a seminar in advanced topics in Early Modern Thought.  When I'm not hard at work on philosophy I enjoy traveling and the outdoors, and love to combine the two.  I especially enjoy kayaking."
