
William G. Laatsch assumed his duties as interim provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay on June 16, 2008.
Laatsch is UW-Green Bay’s chief academic officer, chief operating officer and is responsible for the overall quality of the educational program. His administrative responsibilities include academic affairs, student services and information services. He reports to the Chancellor and serves as the University’s senior administrative officer in the absence of the Chancellor.
Laatsch began as an instructor with the Green Bay and Fox Valley center campuses in 1966-67. Dr. Laatsch has the honor of being the most long-standing UWGB faculty member and has for the past forty year had a distinguished and still-active career as a geographer in the Urban and Regional Studies program. He has taught for the Geography discipline, the interdisciplinary program in Urban and Regional Analysis, general education seminars, the graduate program and Interdisciplinary Studies (Extended Degree). Dr. Laatsch is respected for his dedication to his students, the campus community, and the region.
Laatsch received his Ph.D. from the University of Alberta and his M.A. from the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Laatsch received his B.S. degree from Carroll College and currently serves as President of the Carroll College Board of Trustees. He also provides leadership service on many boards, panels, and state and community groups related to his scholarly interests, including: Wisconsin Historic Preservation Board, Heritage Hill Foundation, Voyageur Editorial Board, and the Brown County Historical Society. He has received numerous awards for his contributions in the areas of leadership, service, and scholarship.
