Bulletin Boards in Academic Buildings
Effective: 06/01/02; 01/01/02

  1. A sign, poster, picture, or any other item of similar nature may be posted on a bulletin board maintained by Public Safety if in compliance with the terms of this policy. Posters to be displayed shall be one per event, activity, or issue, per bulletin board. Candidate/ticket (only student elections) posters may be posted on student organization boards only.

  2. There are a total of ten (10) bulletin boards. Six (6) academic boards (located in the academic buildings) for department and student organizations. Four (4) additional boards specifically for student organizations. Announcements of events, activities, issues, or meetings can be posted for:
    1. UW-Green Bay academic or administrative unit or registered student organization, and will be given first priority use of bulletin board space.
    2. Non UW - Green Bay items may be posted if the activity depicted is in concert with the University's goals and objectives, and if it is non-profit.

  3. Poster specifications:
    1. Posting materials may be submitted no earlier than four days prior to the requested posting date, and no later than one day prior to the requested posting date. The posting date is three weeks prior to the date of the event.
    2. Any poster item must have the sponsor clearly stated.
    3. Posters should not exceed 18" x 12", there are no restrictions on configuration.
    4. Larger size posters (maximum 24" x 18") are acceptable if space is available. If larger see Banner Policy.
    5. Posted items may remain up for a maximum of three weeks.
    6. A poster may be ongoing if space is available, but a new poster should be submitted every three weeks.
    7. Must be in compliance with the University Alcohol Policy.
    8. Organizations of offices that wish to retain their posters should submit a written request, along with the material to be posted, to the Office of Public Safety requesting that their posters be returned following the completion of the event. If a request is not submitted, posters will be discarded.

  4. Posting materials for the bulletin boards maintained by Public Safety are to be taken to the Office of Public Safety, IS1024.

  5. If a poster topic deals with sexual assault, harassment, self-defense, etc., a copy should be sent to the Dean of Students Office.

  6. Enforcement of the policy and removal of posters is a function of Public Safety acting in compliance with these guidelines. Violation of the University Posting Policy may result in revocation of posting rights at the discretion of the Office of Public Safety.

  7. Organizations or university offices may be granted exceptions to this policy by submitting a written petition to the Office of Public Safety a minimum of one week prior to posting. Requests for extensions will be evaluated based on:
    1. Whether the information presented on posting materials is pertinent for all students, or the University community;
    2. Size of the posting material;
    3. Available space (present and projected);
    4. Lack of advertising alternatives.

During the extension period, the number of posters may be reduced at the discretion of Public Safety Staff due to space constrictions.

ACADEMIC BUILDING BULLETIN BOARDS MAINTAINED BY PUBLIC SAFETY

  • Studio Arts (vending area)

ACADEMIC UNITS AND ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE BULLETIN BOARDS

Academic units and administrative offices have bulletin boards to post announcements. These boards are generally located near their office and permission to post materials on these boards is granted through those offices and may require the approval of the appropriate academic dean.

CLASSROOM BULLETIN BOARDS

Classroom bulletin boards are for posting of information relative to the classes held in that classroom, and may require the approval of the appropriate academic dean.

UNIVERSITY UNION BULLETIN BOARDS

Ads, announcements, etc. may be placed only on bulletin boards specifically designated for this purpose. The Union regulates a barter board for such advertisements. Seven (7) general use bulletin boards are available in the University Union. Posters should be dropped off at the University Information Center, UU 150.

KIOSKS

Any group or person can post announcements on the outdoor kiosks.
