Research Scholar

UW- Green Bay's Research Council is please to accept proposals for the Research Scholar Program:

Generous support from the Office of the Provost continues to make possible this program which will provide a three-credit course release to the successful applicant. The Research Scholar will be able to use the time afforded by the release to work on his or her scholarship.

The call for proposals is open to all full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty members at UW- Green Bay. One Research Scholar will be selected for the Spring 2009 semester. The Scholar may choose to use the course release in the Fall 2008 semester with evidence of the approval of their departmental chair. The Scholar will be expected to work on a specific research project and generate a tangible product during the semester of work (e.g., grant proposal, draft of a manuscript, book proposal, preparation of creative works for exhibition/performance/publication). Time may be used to develop a new project (e.g., grant proposal), to complete an existing one (e.g., final chapters of a book) or to complete a distinct stage of a larger ongoing project.

Goal: To encourage continuing research endeavors by UW-Green Bay faculty.

Applications:
Application materials should include the following materials. They must be submitted to the Institute for Research Office (WH 303) by      4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2008.

1. Completed Cover Page

2.  Proposal Narrative: A 5-6 page, double-spaced description of the proposed project with four sections:

  • An indication of how the project would contribute to the faculty member's professional development and overall program of research

  • A detailed description of the final product that would result from the Research Scholar's work

3. Timeline: A 1-page proposed timeline for completion of the project (with markers of progress and some product to be completed within the semester and, if appropriate or necessary, a final product to be completed by the end of the following semester)

4. Curriculum Vitae: A 2-page abbreviated vita limited to relevant research experience

5. Signature Page:

  • Indicating that the departmental chair has been informed of the submission of the Research Scholar proposal

  • Indicating the term in which the course release will be assigned

  • The signature of the departmental chair will be required if the course release is requested in the Fall 2008 term

  •  Containing the signature of the applicant

Evaluation:
Applications will be evaluated based on these criteria

  • The degree to which the proposal describes a clearly defined, substantive scholarly project

  • The degree to which the proposal places the project within a larger professional context (i.e., demonstrates the significance of the project) and incorporates professional literature (as appropriate)

  • The extent to which the project would contribute to the individual's professional development and is part of a coherent, continuous program of scholarship

  • The perceived quality of the proposed project and tangible outcome

  • The degree to which the timeline for completion appears achievable

Notes: Only complete applications received by the established deadline from full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty at UW- Green Bay will be considered. Applicants will only be eligible to receive a Research Scholar position once every five years.
