Computer Service Center: 920 465-5163 Mon - FRI 3:30-6:30 p.m.

Router configuration: NETGEAR – WGT624.3

  1. Power off all equipment, router & PC. Connect the Router:

NOTE: BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN CONNECTING THE CABLES - NETGEAR ROUTERS ARE NOT WELL LABELED!

Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the back of the Router, and the other end to an Ethernet port on a PC\Laptop. (labeled 1.)

Connect a second Ethernet network cable from the WALL to the Internet port on the Router's back panel. (labeled 2.)

Connect the AC Power Adapter to the Power port and the other end into an electrical outlet.

Power on the devices in this order: Router first then the PC.
Make sure the Power and Internet LEDs on the front panel light up green. (The Power LED will flash green for a few seconds when the Router goes through its self-diagnostic test.)

  2. Use the following URL to bring up the Router config page.

  3. From the Welcome Screen click on the Advanced user "Click Here" link.

  4. Wait while settings are updated.

  5. Login using 'admin' as the User Name and 'password' for the Password.

  6. On the Basic Settings page, insert the Router name given to you by the Computer Service Center. Click on Apply. You see an "updating settings" message for several seconds.

  7. Within the menu on the left, select "Set Password" under the Maintenance group.

  8. The old password is 'password'. Set a new one. This must be at least an 8-character combination of letters and\or numbers. Later, you will use this SAME password to set a Passphrase for your wireless network.

  9. You will be prompted to login again using the new password.
  10. From the left Menu, (under Setup) click on Wireless Settings.

  11. Within the Wireless Settings window, make the following changes:
    1) Change the Name (SSID) to your assigned router name. 2) Select ANY Wireless Channel. NOTE: If someone else in your area has selected the same channel you will have to change this. This is trial and error. 3) Select WPA-PSK [TKIP] in the Security Options. 4) Finally, set a Passphrase for your wireless network. (Use the SAME password that you used for your router; this password is your WPA Shared Key) (*you will be prompted for this Shared Key to connect the router to your laptop) 5) Click Apply.

  12. From the Main Menu, select Wireless Settings under the Advanced tab.

  13. Disable the SSID Broadcast option; click Apply.

  14. Turn Off UPnP. Also found under the "Advanced" tab; click Apply.

Configuration of your NetGear Router is now complete. You may close the web browser and start using the wireless connection.
