wireless setup
This year, ResNet is testing a program that will allow students to use their personal wireless routers in their Residence Hall rooms or apartments. We are requiring that you bring your wireless router to the Housing IT Service Center during the first week of the fall semester to register it and ensure it is properly configured. If the router is set up properly, only you can access it. In addition, we can track how many access points are in each building to prevent interference between devices. Since any activity that comes through your personal wireless router will show up under your name, it's extremely important that you are properly secured. Remember that you are liable for whatever happens through your network connection.
Caveat: Given the number of possible access points in each building and other factors that may cause interference (i.e. electrical appliances and cordless phones), there is no way we can guarantee that your wireless router will function properly even with our assistance.
We are testing this service as a way to allow wireless access for your convenience. Your cooperation is very important to ensure we will be able to continue to support this in the future. Please contact the Housing IT Service Center with any questions.
