Present: Lynn Walter, Tony Galt, Mark Everingham, Harvey Kaye, Andy Austin, Kim Nielsen, Craig Lockard, Larry Smith (scribe)

 

1.  Celebrations

-         Andy Austin Presented “Substance Abuse and Persistent Criminal Offending Among Victims of Child Sexual Abuse” to the Faculty Research Lecture Series

-         Andy also had an article accepted for Sociological Spectrum: “Capital Accumulation and Managing its Discontents”

-         Mark Everingham will join an International Educational Exchange Lecture Series and Seminar in South Africa this Summer where he will pursue expansion of his work on post revolutionary land tenure beyond Latin America

-         Harvey Kaye has a new book contract with Hill and Wang for Thomas Paine and the Promise of America

-         Tony Galt reports a successful preliminary research trip back to Pantelleria Italy to develop a future project on medical anthropology during spring break

-         SCD students

-         Charis Hoff has been named the first Center on Wisconsin Strategies student intern outside of Madison and will be handling COWs organizing for its Sustaining Wisconsin program in NE Wisconsin

-         Ryan Stockwell has accepted a Teaching Assistantship in History at Miami of Ohio

-         Daniell Luer reports acceptance into the Peace Corps for somewhere in Latin America

-         Richard Heath, SCD ’86, has accepted a position as executive director of the Clark County Economic Development Corporation in Greenwood, WI.

 

2. Budget  End-of-year budget considerations were discussed and it was decided unanimously to share end of year funds equally across all unit members @ $200 each to start.

 

3.  Lynn Niemi, Coordinator of Services for Students with Disabilities explained the role of her office and faculty responsibilities regarding students with disabilities.     

 

4.  Tuesday May 8 3:00 at the Hinterland was set for the next SCD discussion of introductory courses.  Global Studies, World Politics, Women’s Studies and Freedom and Social Control are on the agenda.
