Present:
Lynn Walter (Chair), Craig Lockard, Andy Austin, Mark Everingham, Kim Nielsen,
and Harvey Kaye, Anthony Galt (Secretary for the day).

Celebrations:
-
Amy
Malliett successfully presented her paper on HIV/AIDS testing programs
at the AAA meetings. She has also been elected student representative in
the HIV/AIDS emphasis group of the Society for Medical Anthropology.
-
Alumna,
Jillian Duquaine also attended the AAA and reported very good progress
toward her Ph.D. in Women’s studies with an anthropology emphasis. Her
dissertation will have to do with agencies that deliver services for
single mothers.

Discussion:
Replacement problems and opportunities for next year were discussed.
-
Galt
will be half-time and away during the Spring Semester doing field work.
-
Kaye
will be out of the classroom full-time during the year.

Francis
Carleton will be on sabbatical
-
Kim
Nielson will direct the CFHSC in Kaye’s absence.
-
Andy
Austin will teach SCD 361 during the Fall Semester.
-
It
is as yet unsettled about who will take over advising duties during
Galt’s absence.
- It
was decided that two positions be requested.

A
full-time position in sociology with a specialty in justice studies
(or possible Gender and Women's Studies needs--we were thinking
of 875-340 Women, Work and Family and possibly Women and the Law)
who would be able to teach a social change theory course (SCD 360)
-
A
half-time cultural anthropologist with a foreign area specialty (to
cover SCD 333 in Spring 2003),
Anthropology 100, and possible women’s studies needs.
- Ad
hoc instructors will be sought to fill Francis Carleton’s orphaned
courses.
