Minutes of the Social Change and Development Department meeting
Friday, December 03, 2004 2:00 PM-3:30 PM
Present:
Walter, Galt, Kaye, Lockard, Austin, Kersten, Everingham, Smith, Nielsen.
Potential changes in General Education suggested by the
Chancellor in his recent memo were discussed. It was decided that our Senator,
Harvey Kaye, bring up a model at the senate that would consist of three large
team-taught general education courses.
Darryl
Block visited the meeting and queried us about aspects of Distance Education.
Walter
reported on a meeting with the Dean at which the subject of banking of
supervised Independent Studies, Internships, and Senior
distinction projects was discussed. The emergent notion was that 60 credits worth
of such activities would equal one reassignment. We agreed that Andy Austin
should continue to handle most internships, unless they fell somehow squarely
within the expertise of another faculty person. We also agree that our banking
system would begin during the fall semester of 2004. Everyone is to keep track
of his/her own independent study contributions by saving copies of Proposal
Forms.
