
Craig Lockard
Rosenberg Professor
Craig Lockard specializes in Global, Third World and Asian history.
He teaches Modern World History, The Vietnam War,
and area courses on Asian Civilizations, East Asia, Southeast Asia, and Africa. Author of
various monographs and books on Southeast Asia, including
From Kampung to City: A
Social History of Kuching, Malaysia: 1820-1970,
Reflections of Change: Malaysian
Popular Music, and "Dance of Life": Popular Music and Politics in Modern
Southeast Asia, and has also published numerous articles and reviews on Asian history and
politics, world history, the Vietnam War, U.S. folk and popular music, and U.S. foreign
policy. Professor Lockard is completing a book manuscript on popular music and politics in the Third World
and also writing a textbook on world history. A member of various editorial boards as well
as ex-Book Review Editor for the Journal of Asian Studies. He has considerable experience
and travel in Asia, Africa, and Europe, including two Fulbright professorships in
Malaysian universities. Significant international experiences in China,
Malaysia, Hong Kong, and other Asian countries.
