TEACHING & RESEARCH INTERESTS

Social Change and Development's award winning faculty is composed of strong teachers and strong scholars who seek to follow the teacher/scholar model by integrating their research and writing with their teaching. We have high standards for ourselves and for our students.
Research carried out by the Social Change and Development faculty often reflects the central areas of our
teaching mission. Among our colleagues, there is a spirit of interest about one another’s research and a high degree of mutual support for carrying out research and integrating it into teaching. All of us are published authors. Several members have published one or more books, and all have published in other scholarly outlets. Four of the five full professors have won the Founder's Association Award for Excellence in Scholarship, and two hold the Rosenberg Professorship.

Mentoring

Social Change and Development faculty members are always interested in mentoring students who have ideas about their futures either in careers or in graduate school. See the department advisor, Tony Galt for information about appropriate fit between student and faculty interests. Such mentoring can take place informally, or in the context of independent study courses, or senior honors projects in which students carry out real social science research.
