Sheepshead Review Fall 2009 Editorial Staff

JStallsmith

Executive Staff:

Jennifer Stallsmith, Editor-in-Chief
I am a 15th semester student working on her second degree - the first being in social work and the second will be English-creative writing.  After working in business for 13 years, I decided to come back and do it all again. I am a 5th semester sheep and have served in copy-editing, nonfiction staff, and as managing editor before this year. I am proud to be the editor-in-chief for the journal and hope that the legacy I leave is one of progress and one of fun. I am excited to have a mascot this semester and also about being on Cafepress...sweatshirts - woo hoo!

Paul Labrosse, Asst. Editor-in-Chief/Internal Relations
I sit in the overstuffed couch in the den, absentmindedly chewing on my nails. He is seated, staring into the fire. “You know, it’s funny.” His voice is on the verge of cracking. “I can look back on a life of achievement, on challenges met, competitors bested, obstacles overcome. I’ve accomplished more than most men, and without the use of my legs. What… what makes a man, Mr. La Brosse?” I shift uncomfortably. “Paul.” “What?”  “I, uh, don’t know, sir.” “Is it… is it being prepared to do the right thing, whatever the price? Isn’t that what makes a man?”  “Sure. That and a little bit of chutzpah.” Maybe he smiles. But he is looking away from me. “You’re joking. But perhaps you’re right.”

Mindi Vanderhoof, Asst. Editor-in-Chief/Special Sections Editor
Mindi is in her third semester with the Sheepshead Review. She has served on the nonfiction staff and as nonfiction editor and is currently an assistant editor in chief. This past summer, Mindi was the Arts and Literature intern at the Peninsula Pulse, an independent newspaper devoted to the arts, where she coordinated the 2009 Hal Grutzmacher Writers’ Expose and Photography Jubilee.  She also writes feature stories for the Pulse’s Arts and Literature Section.

Amanda Klukas, Managing Editor
Amanda is a super senior and super excited to be spending a third semester with Sheepshead Review.  She’s had some insight into the huge plans for the journal this year and loves the thought of being a part of them.  She has high hopes and large goals for raising funds to make it possible for big things to happen.

Greta Jordan, Asst. Managing Editor

Genre Editor & Layout Staff:

Mary Stravinski, Fiction Section Editor

Katie Myers, Nonfiction Section Editor

Nick Reilly, Poetry Section Editor

Charnae Walker, Asst. Special Section Editor
Charnae is pursuing a major in English – Creative Writing and a minor in Spanish.  Her freshman year of school was spent in Arizona State University, and though it was an entirely new experience, Wisconsin is home. English is a great passion of Charnae’s that she hopes will add depth and oomph to Sheepshead Review, and with this being her first semester with the organization, we will all have to wait and see.  She is very excited to learn more and in the future teach others how to develop the journal further.  She loves to liven up a group with laughter and fresh ideas.  A good sense of humor gets everyone pepped up and ready to go.  Let the fun begin!

Chris Livieri, Visual Arts Section/Layout Editor
This is Chris' third semester with Sheepshead Review, second being both visual arts and layout editor.  He is starting his senior year at UW-Green Bay perusing a degree in graphic design. He plans on being with the journal until he graduates in the spring of 2010. Chris is excited to be part of the staff once again in helping to publish this year's issues.

Mindy Obry, Asst. Layout Editor
Oh my gosh, I'm on the editorial staff page!  I mean uhh...  Hi, I'm Mindy.  This is my second semester being on the Sheepshead Review, and I'm very excited to be the assistant layout editor this fall!  This is my first time being on editorial staff, if you couldn't already  tell by that opening exclamation.  I'm a senior this year and am studying graphic design with a music minor.  Hopefully, I'll be able to graduate in May.  Thanks for checking out my little blurb!  Ok, I'm going back to "geeking out" now.

Copyediting & Promotions Staff:

Christine DeNardis, Chief Copyeditor & Web Editor
This is Christine’s fourth semester with Sheepshead Review. She is an education major with an English and math minor. Christine will probably add more to this bio later since she is the web editor and can change anything at anytime.

Christopher Durocher, Asst. Copyeditor
I am a first semester student at UWGB, making it my 10th semester overall spent in college, with a couple years of off-time in between. I held what was arguably an English major (I just didn’t graduate) and was on my way to earning my History major before I started bouncing around schools looking for the classes I needed (and failing), and I’m hoping to finish the journey here. As things aren’t certain I do not know at this time how long I plan on serving the journal, but when it comes to editing I’m generally considered second to none by those who know me. In my spare time I like reading (I like science fiction though I’ll read anything that suits my fancy), writing (mostly fiction—I’m currently working on a play I started 12 years ago), and drawing (though not as much as I used to—when I did it was mostly comics). I also like listening to classical and instrumental music, as an interesting tidbit.

Marena Erickson, Asst. Copyeditor
Currently attending UW Green Bay in pursuit of a degree in English, Marena Erickson spends much of time reading, analyzing, and otherwise consuming literature for the sake of education. When she is not doing that, she can be found reading, analyzing, and otherwise consuming literature for the sake of good time. That being said, Marena is excited to be given a chance to read, analyze, and otherwise consume Sheepshead submissions for the sake of producing what is, in her opinion, the most excellent literary journal ever. This is her first semester editing for Sheepshead, and she fully expects to edit for them in future issues.

Vanessa Smith, Asst. Copyeditor

Jordan Jerabek, Asst. Copyeditor

Erin Wiley, Web Editor
This is my first semester working on the Sheepshead staff and my first semester at UWGB.  I am a junior and majoring in Communications with an emphasis on print and a minor in English.  I am thrilled be a part of the Sheepshead staff and to be working with a group of such talented people.  I can not wait to see the talent my new campus creates.

Hilary Bullock, Publicity & Promotional Director
This is Hilary's third semester in Sheepshead Review and will probably spend a majority of her time chasing around that pesky runaway sheep named Bo.

Dan Beckwith, Publicity & Promotional Director
As a child, multi-billionaire Dan Beckwith watched helplessly as his parents(the physician Dr. James Beckwith and his wife Gail Beckwith) were shot and killed by a petty mugger. Upon witnessing their death, the young Dan took an oath of vengeance against crime so that no-one else would have to suffer the tragedy that he had. Dan spent years venturing the world, learning many forms of combat and training himself to physical and intellectual perfection. Upon his return to Green Bay, Dan sat alone in his study dwelling upon his wealth, his new-found abilities and the fact that criminals are a "cowardly, superstitious lot"; the best way to get to them was through sheer terror. At that moment, as if a sign from God, a huge bat flew in through his study window. This bat provided Wayne with the inspiration he had been searching for. He donned a long, black cape and a cowl with huge, pointed, black ears and became the creature the criminals of Gotham would now know and fear: The Dark Knight... Batman.

Ashley Borman, Historian
This is my second semester with the Sheepshead Review. I am a history and human development double major and a French minor. I am the current secretary of Vets 4 Vets and Vice President of Ancient and Medieval History Club, as well as being involved in other various activities. As a history major, you may wonder why I would be on the Sheepshead Review staff. It’s simple really - I get to dig up all the dirt on UWGB’s journal of the arts!
