Sheepshead Review Spring
2010
Editorial Staff
Jennifer Stallsmith,
Editor-in-Chief
I am a 16th semester student working on her
second degree - the first being in social work and the second will be
English-creative writing. After working in business for 13 years, I decided
to come back and do it all again. I am a 6th semester sheep and have served
in copy-editing, nonfiction staff, and as managing editor before this year.
I am proud to be the editor-in-chief for the journal and hope that the
legacy I leave is one of progress and one of fun. I am excited to have a
mascot this semester and also about being on Cafepress...sweatshirts - woo
hoo!
Paul Labrosse, Asst. Editor-in-Chief/Internal Relations
I sit in the overstuffed couch in the den,
absentmindedly chewing on my nails. He is seated, staring into the fire.
“You know, it’s funny.” His voice is on the verge of cracking. “I can look
back on a life of achievement, on challenges met, competitors bested,
obstacles overcome. I’ve accomplished more than most men, and without the
use of my legs. What… what makes a man, Mr. La Brosse?” I shift
uncomfortably. “Paul.” “What?” “I, uh, don’t know, sir.” “Is it… is it
being prepared to do the right thing, whatever the price? Isn’t that what
makes a man?” “Sure. That and a little bit of chutzpah.” Maybe he
smiles. But he is looking away from me. “You’re joking. But perhaps you’re
right.”
Mindi Vanderhoof, Asst. Editor-in-Chief/Special Sections Editor
Mindi is in her fourth semester with the Sheepshead
Review. She has served on the nonfiction staff and as nonfiction editor
and is currently an assistant editor in chief. This past summer, Mindi was
the Arts and Literature intern at the Peninsula Pulse, an independent
newspaper devoted to the arts, where she coordinated the 2009 Hal
Grutzmacher Writers’ Expose and Photography Jubilee. She also writes
feature stories for the Pulse’s Arts and Literature Section.
Nicholas Reilly, Nonfiction Editor
I tend to spend my time writing down the words to sermons that no one will hear, nobody comes near. I also enjoy working, darning socks in the night when there's nobody here. People ask me why I care, it's because appearance is everything in the priesthood. I always keep a pair of moist towelettes with me, to wipe the dirt from my hands as I walk from a grave. I keep cleanliness next to godliness, or no one will be saved. I like to keep the Non-fiction section as clean as my graveyard, just not as loud with less static cling. I've been in the seminary for almost four years, nearly two spent studying the Book of Sheepshead. L'Chaim!
Amber Bassett, Fiction Editor
I used to submit work to the Sheepshead Review every semester, hoping to get published. After being rejected many times, I took the class and said jokingly, "I guess the only way I'll get my name in there is if I'm on the staff." I ended up really liking it and having so much fun that I came back for two more semesters and decided this is what I want to do with my English degree. I'll be graduating in May and hopefully finding a job in publishing...and getting my own work published without cheating and publishing it myself. If not, I'm more of a reader than a writer anyway, so it's all good.
Kelsey Duquaine, Assistant Fiction Editor
This is Kelsey’s first semester on the Sheepshead Review and she’s super pumped to be here. Whenever she’s written biography blurbs for musical programs and the like in the past, she’s mentioned how she loves to read and write. Now she’s an assistant fiction editor and a creative writing major, so all that “reading and writing” stuff is sort of expected. Oh! She could mention the singing too. There’s that.
Melissa Scheck, Assistant Poetry Editor
This is my last semester of classes on campus before I begin my student teaching this fall and then graduate in December (I did it in 3 1/2 years--Wahoo!). This is my first semester on Sheepshead staff. I am also President of UWGB's Student WEA (WI Education Association). I cannot wait to share my experiences on staff here with my future classroom someday!
Michelle Gach, Events Coordinator
Briefly. I work and eat and relax or get together with family and friends or travel and sleep and shop. Then I start over again. I also do makeup.
Alyce Marczak, Assistant Events Coordinator
I am a Junior majoring in English-Creative Writing with a minor in Human Development. This is my second semester at UW- Green Bay (my first couple years were spent at UW- La Crosse), and it is also my second semester in Sheepshead Review. In addition to being on staff this semester, I am also completing an internship with Tekno Books. I’m looking forward to working on Sheepshead this semester, and hopefully in coming semesters!
Chris Livieri, Visual Arts Section/Layout Editor
This is Chris' fourth semester with
Sheepshead Review, third being layout editor. He
is finishing his senior year at UW-Green Bay perusing a degree in graphic
design. He plans on being with the journal until he graduates in the spring
of 2010. Chris is excited to be part of the staff once again in helping to
publish this year's issues.
Laura Egilsson, Assistant Visual Arts Editor
This is my first semester with the Journal. I am excited to be assistant Visual Arts Editor I take photographs No I do not read Laura Ingalls Wilder Yes, I love to bowl I miss my puppy Lilly I will trust you until you give me reason not to. Don't give me a reason I hope you have a wonderful day, it's sunny somewhere :)
Mindy Obry, Assistant Layout Editor & Alumni Issue Layout
Oh my gosh, I'm on the editorial staff page! I mean uhh... I knew that. Anyway, I'm Mindy. This is my third semester being on the Sheepshead Review, and I'm very excited to be an assistant layout editor AND be part of the staff for the alumni issue this spring! I'm a senior and am studying graphic design with a music minor. I'll be graduateing in May. Ahh! It's coming up so fast! Thanks for checking out my little blurb! Writing this will probably be the easiest thing I get to do all semester. Haha, just kidding!
Christopher Durocher, Chief Copyeditor
"Now serving my second (and hopefully final) semester at UW-Green Bay, I’m an English major with a minor in Humanistic Studies. As chief copyeditor, it’s my duty to make sure the grammar and punctuation in the magazine is up to snuff, so if you’re looking for someone to blame for any mistakes, I’m your man. I’m also overseeing a few sweeping changes being made this year to the copyediting staff, which is part of an ongoing process to make the magazine a more professional outfit."
