Since the journal is a reflection of UWGB, all students, faculty, and alumni are encouraged to participate, though only UWGB students are eligible to win the Rising Phoenix Award.

Sheepshead Review is both a student organization and a course for credit. Interested students may become involved in the student organization by attending any one of the weekly general meetings held on campus. Another option is to enroll in the Practicum in Literary Publishing course offered in the fall and spring semesters. This course is taught by Dr. Rebecca Meacham and is dedicated to the production of the magazine, from selecting submissions and designing layout to editing the finished product. Projects can include soliciting manuscripts, researching the literary market, interviewing artists, grant writing, writing contributions, fund-raising, web editing, and journal research.
