The first edition of The
New Urban Sociology represented a major breakthrough text for
urban sociology and urban studies programs. Now in its second edition, and
co-authored by Mark
Gottdiener and Ray Hutchison, the text has been completely revised and
updated throughout to include discussions of many current topics and new
case study material highlighting recent work in the field. This book is
organized around an integrated paradigm throughout – the sociospatial
perspective – which considers the role played by social factors such as
race, class, gender, lifestyle, economics, culture, and politics on the
development of metropolitan areas.
