Social Work Club By-Laws University of Wisconsin – Green Bay

ARTICLE I: NAME

Section I: Social Work Club of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay

ARTICLE II: PURPOSE

Section I: Mission Statement: To promote social work values within the university and surrounding community.

ARTICLE III: MEMBERSHIP

Section I: Membership is open to all UWGB students who pay dues. These members have voting rights. Members who have not paid dues are considered ex-officio members and do not have voting privileges.

Section II: Dues are collected before the first week in October. The amount for dues is decided by the Club officers.

ARTICLE IV: ELECTION OF OFFICERS

Section I: Nominations can be submitted verbally or in writing to the Club President(s) or Office Secretary. A. Elections of all officers except the Vice-President are held each year in April. B. Election of Vice President is held each year and is to be completed by the first week in October. C. Vacancies between elections 1. If the President’s office becomes vacant, the Vice-President becomes the President. 2. If any other office becomes vacant, a special election will be held within thirty days.

ARTICLE V: EXECUTIVE BOARD

Section I: The Executive Board shall meet at least once (1) in each two (2) week period of the year. The Presidents shall set the date, time, and place of the meeting and post it in accordance with the Wisconsin Open Meetings Law.

Section II: Each member of the Executive Board shall have one (1) vote on motions before the Executive Board. Either Co President shall serve as the presiding officer of the Executive Board. If both the President(s) are absent, the order of succession as presiding officer shall be the Vice President, Secretary, and then the Treasurer.

Section III: The Executive Board will coordinate the activities of the Social Work Club, set the agenda for Club meetings, and will ensure that all Social Work Club initiatives are implemented. Each Executive is required to present a report to the Social Work Club during a meeting at least once per month regarding the progress in their specific area of responsibility.

Section IV: Officers hold office for one-year term.

ARTICLE VI: DUTIES OF THE EXECUTIVE BOARD

Section I: The President(s) shall actively represent the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay regarding Social Work issues both on and off campus, and is responsible for recruitment of new members, retention of existing members(including but not limited to class raps and org smorg) , scheduling meeting times, chair the Social Work Club meetings, Executive Board, and Banquet Committee meetings in addition to meeting with the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay Social Work Department Faculty Chair monthly. In addition the President(s) are responsible for the overall execution of all Social Work Club initiatives and events, and has the authority to sign for all funds.

Section II: The Vice President shall specifically be a junior in the Social Work Program and is responsible for assisting the President(s) in matters assigned. The Vice President shall act as a liaison for the junior Social Work Class and is required to be a member of the Banquet, Volunteer and Fundraising committees.

Section II: The Treasurer has the authority to sign for funds and is responsible for planning and implementation of all fundraising activities of the Social Work Club, collection of club dues, keeping and accurate record of the organizations receipts and disbursements in addition to chairing the Fundraising committee and acting as a member of the Banquet Committee.

Section III: The Secretary is responsible for keeping an accurate record of the proceedings of Club meetings and Executive Board meetings. All meeting minutes will be filed in two separate binders, one set of binders to be filed with the University of Wisconsin Green Bay Library, and one to be filed with the Social Work Department.. All Executive Board minutes and Social Work Club meeting minutes shall be distributed to club members no later than two days after the adjournment of a meeting. The secretary will also provide all official correspondence for the Social Work Club including distribution of the Club meeting agenda (no later than 24 hours prior to club meeting times), and posting of all club activities and events.

Section IV: The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for seeking out and organizing volunteer activities in the Green Bay Community, disbursement of information regarding volunteer events to the secretary, and will chair the Volunteer Committee in addition to encouraging Club members to participate in volunteer events in addition to being a member of the Banquet and Fundraising Committees.

Section V: The Diversity Coordinator shall promote the awareness of diversity in the community/campus, collaborate with the Volunteer coordinator to inform members about diversity events, and shall be a member of the Volunteer Committee.

Section VI: The duties of the Webmaster include coordinating with all Executive officers to update the website, be present at all club events in effort to take pictures for the website.

Section VII: The Co-Treasurer shall specifically be a junior in the Social Work Program and is responsible for assisting the senior Treasureer in all matters assigned.

ARTICLE VII: IMPEACHMENT

Section I: Justifiable reasons for impeachment are as follows:

A. Materially violate any Article of the Social Work Club Constitution/Bylaws B. Accruing an excessive amount of absences(more than 5) C. Unethical conduct D. Illegal activities E. Significant failure to carry out assigned duties

Section II: Any student, faculty, or staff member of the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay who believes an Executive has committed an impeachable offense may initiate an impeachment proceeding against that individual. The person making the charges must submit a written justification of the impeachment to the University of Wisconsin Green Bay Faculty Chair and the Social Work Club Members.

Section III: A hearing before the Club will be scheduled within seven (7) days of the receipt of the written complaint. The accused individual will be allowed to speak at this hearing, but will not be allowed to be the presiding officer, nor will that individual have the ability to vote on the motion to impeach. A two-thirds (2/3) vote is required to impeach the individual. The impeached individual will be immediately terminated from their position on the Executive Board if the motion passes during the Club meeting

Section IV: The impeached individual may request a second hearing within seven (7) days of the impeachment. A two-thirds (2/3) vote of the Club is required to overturn the impeachment decision. If the impeachment is overturned, the individual will immediately resume the position previously held.

ARTICLE VII: COMMITEES

Section I: The Banquet Committee is chaired by the President(s) and shall be initiated no later than the first week in November. The committee will consist of the Vice President, Volunteer Coordinator, Treasurer and any Social Work Club member or ex officio member who volunteers. The Committee will be responsible for coordinating the end of the year Social Work Club Banquet in addition to working with the Treasurer to fundraise for the event.

Section II: The Volunteer Committee is chaired by the Volunteer Coordinator and shall be initialed no later than the second week in October. The committee will consist of the Vice President, Diversity coordinator and any Social Work Club member or ex officio member who volunteers. The committee will help the Volunteer Coordinator with his/her duties of office and shall be responsible for researching and coordinating volunteer opportunities and events in the community in which the Club will participate in addition to securing and scheduling volunteers for each event(inclusive of securing volunteer to assist with fundraising events).

Section III: The Fundraising Committee is chaired by the Treasurer and shall be initialed no later than the last week in September. The committee will consist of the Vice President, Volunteer Coordinator and any Social Work Club member or ex officio member who volunteers. The committee will aid the Treasure with the duties of his/her office and shall be responsible for the creation and execution of all fundraising activities.

Section IV: Ad Hoc or Special committees may be formed as needed.

ARTICLE V: CODE OF CONDUCT

Section I: Uphold the goals and the ethical code of the Social Work Profession.

Section II: Abide by University regulations and civil laws.

ARTICLE VI: AMENDMENTS

Section I: Bylaw amendment changes must be presented for consideration at a Social Work Club meeting during the regular school year. Changes shall be initially presented during one meeting and voted on during the next scheduled meeting. Changes to the Bylaws require a two-thirds vote of the attending membership.
