Professional Development Programming Committee
According to Article IV, Section F of the Academic Staff Committee Bylaws, the duties of the Academic Staff Professional Development Programming Committee are:
a) To survey the academic staff annually and consult with senior administrators to determine professional development needs and priorities.
b) To develop and present to the Academic Staff Committee by mid-October of each year a Professional Development Program Plan that provides a description and schedule of planned activities.
c) To plan, publicize, and conduct professional development training programs in accordance with the "Guidelines for Use of Professional Development Funds."
d) To provide a quarterly update of professional development program planning and expenditures to the Academic Staff Committee.
Consistent with the duties listed in the Bylaws, and in continued support of academic staff governance goals, the Academic Staff Committee submits the following additional goals as part of the charge to the 2005 – 2006 Professional Development Programming Committee:
1. Survey the academic staff and consult with senior administrators to determine professional development needs and priorities.
2. Develop a Professional Development Program Plan for 2005 - 2006 and submit it to the Academic Staff Committee by October 15, 2005.
3. Begin preparing a Professional Development Program Plan for the fall semester of 2006 – 2007. This addresses the problem of not having enough time to develop effective programs in the first semester of the academic year.
4. Sponsor at least two Professional Development programs during the 2005 - 2006 academic year. These programs should be based on the results of the survey. Sponsor at least one additional program which addresses a current campus issue, such as equality for women or campus diversity.
5. Allocate all funds required for programming by March 1, 2006. After that date any remaining funds will be made available to the Professional Development Allocations committee to support professional development proposals from individual academic staff members.
6. Provide quarterly updates of professional development program planning and expenditures to the Academic Staff Committee, utilizing the Shared Financial System.
7. Working with the Professional Development Allocations Committee, review and recommend to the Academic Staff Committee possible revisions regarding reporting and deadlines of the Professional Development Programming Committee as stated in the “Guidelines for Professional Development Funds”, 3.A, “Source of Funds.”
8. Use the quarterly list of persons who receive funding through the Professional Development Allocations Committee to solicit person willing to perform brown bag seminars or full programs based on the knowledge and experience gained via their professional development activities.
