Amnesty International Vision and Mission
As an Amnesty International USA (AIUSA) student group, we pledge to promote Amnesty International’s vision and mission.
Amnesty International’s vision is of a world in which every person enjoys all of the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights standards.
• In pursuit of this Vision, Amnesty International’s mission is to undertake research and action focused on preventing grave abuses of the rights to physical and mental integrity, freedom of conscience and expression, and freedom from discrimination, within the context of its work to promote all human rights;
• In order to reach these goals, we pledge to engage in as many of the following areas of work as the group decides, under the general supervision of AIUSA;
• Work on behalf of the Special Focus Case, Prisoners of Conscience or other victims of human rights abuse;
• Participate in AIUSA’s Urgent Action Network which focuses on short-term
detentions, “disappearances,” executions, and other human rights issues;
• Work for the abolition of the death penalty worldwide;
• Participate in campaigns on behalf of the rights of refugees;
• Participate in country and issue campaigns, concentrating efforts on individual
countries and specific types of human rights violations with attention to, and
ensuring representation of, those populations most at risk: ethnic, racial and
religious minorities, women, gay men and lesbians, bisexual and transgender
persons, and children;
• Participate in publicity, community education, and outreach efforts in order to
build the human rights movement on our campus and in our community, by
mobilizing an ever- larger constituency of activists.
We pledge that, in our capacity as members of an AIUSA student group, we will not participate in, or intervene in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for public office.
We pledge that, in our capacity as members of an AIUSA student group, our activities, actions and statements will abide by Amnesty International policies and practice.
We understand that AIUSA may suspend a student group if it determines that, after attempts at corrective action, the activities, actions or statements of the group continue to be inconsistent with AIUSA policies or practice.
Amnesty International Fundraising Guidelines
AIUSA student groups are encouraged to engage in fundraising activities.
All money raised by student groups can be used to directly sustain the work of the student group (for example: annual assessment fee, postage for appeals, materials, honorariums, etc...) and/or to support the work of the larger organization.
Funds raised using Amnesty International’s name cannot be directed to support any other organization.
